Help Alberta RCMP name the puppies that will become police dogs

INNISFAIL, AB – The Police Dog Service Training Centre (PDSTC) in Innisfail has 13 German Shepherd puppies who need names.

The RCMP has opened submissions for the 2022 “Name the Puppy” contest.

Canadians aged four to 14 are encouraged to send in their ideas for names. This year, RCMP says the names must start with the letter “R,” be one-to-two syllables, and contain no more than nine letters.

“Children are encouraged to be original and imaginative in finding names that will serve these puppies well in their careers with Canada’s national police force,” reads a media release from RCMP. “When thinking of names, it is important to keep in mind that these are working police dogs, not pets.”

Winning names will be chosen by PDSTC staff. If multiple people suggest the same name, staff will do a draw to determine who the winner is.

Those who sent in the winning names will receive a laminated 8×10 photo of the pup they named, a plush dog named Justice, and an RCMP water bottle.

You can enter the contest online until March 17, 2022, here. They are no longer accepting entries through the mail.
