18-team field confirmed for 2022 Tim Hortons Brier in Lethbridge

Lethbridge, AB – Provincial and territorial champions, and defending champion Team Canada will be joined by three Wild Card teams on March 4 at the ENMAX Centre.

The ENMAX Centre successfully bid $1 Million to host the Brier this year.

The field was finalized Tuesday night when Curling Quebec named its representative team.

Team Canada will wear the Maple Leaf at the tournament but will have stiff competition in Lethbridge.

Team Alberta skip, Kevin Koe will be chasing his fifth Tim Hortons Brier championship.

Wild Card berths were awarded to the top three teams on the Canadian Team Ranking System that didn’t qualify in their province or territory.

Canada Olympic men’s team, Team Gushue was awarded the top Wild Card slot.

Team Matt Dunstone of Regina, and Team Jason Gunnlaugson of Morris, Manitoba filled the other two slots.

The 18 teams have been split into two pools of nine based on their team ranking as of February 14.

The tournament will play in an eight-game round-robin within their respective pools, and the top three teams in each pool will advance to a playoff field.

Curling Canada has opened full ticket sales in anticipation of the capacity limit being lifted on March 1.

It said if capacities aren’t lifted, ticket purchases will be honored in chronological order of purchase date.
