LETHBRIDGE, AB. — Alberta Farm Animal Care (AFAC) has opened the portal to registration for its annual Livestock Care Conference (LCC).

With an improved format, the conference will be held on Zoom, Tuesday, March 15 through Thursday, March 17 and will include two virtual lunch and learn sessions on March 8 and 10, as well as three interactive learning sessions, covering topics such as:

  • disease outbreaks, biosecurity,
  • emergency preparedness,
  • trespass, and more.

This year’s three-day event is being opened to anyone in the livestock sector across Canada and with a diverse agenda, participants will be able to engage with each other, as well as the speakers.

The conference theme has been dubbed PREP (Plan, Respond, Evaluate and Progress) and the sessions will delve into the various stages of PREP. It’s particularly timely, given last summer’s drought conditions, as well as the wildfires and floods in B.C., and will include keynote speaker Rebecca Gimenez Husted.

Dr. Husted holds a BS in Biology from Wofford College, and a PhD in Animal Physiology from Clemson University. She also has 22 years freelance writing experience, 20 years management and corporate experience running small businesses, and 25+ years of instructing. She is also a decorated combat veteran, retired Signal Officer, US army and is the sole owner of Technical Large Animal Emergency Rescue, Inc. which covers all aspects of Large Animal Disaster and Emergency Preparedness.

Dr. Husted now provides training in Technical Large Animal Emergency Rescue (TLAERTM) techniques across the US and internationally.
