Milk River’s Emergency Department to temporarily close Tuesday night

Feb 22, 2022 | 3:43 PM

MILK RIVER, AB – Residents of Milk River are advised that, should a medical emergency arise later this week, they will need to seek treatment elsewhere.

AHS says the Milk River Health Centre’s Emergency Department will be temporarily closed from 5:00 pm on Tuesday, Feb. 22 to 8:00 am on Wednesday, Feb. 23.

During this time, the site will not have on-site physician coverage. Nursing staff will remain at the hospital to provide care for inpatients.

“This is a temporary measure and AHS is working hard to ensure local residents continue to have access to the care they need during this time,” reads an advisory from AHS.

Anyone experiencing a medical emergency during the temporary closure should call 911. EMS calls will be re-routed to Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge, which is 87 kilometers away.

Those with non-emergency health-related questions can call Health Link at 811 or speak with their family physician.

“We are thankful for the support of surrounding healthcare centres and medical staff and would like to thank the community for their patience and understanding during this time.”
