Lethbridge to be part of social services pilot project

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The City of Lethbridge will have its say on a new initiative that aims to streamline and improve access to social services.

HelpSeeker Technologies has named three communities as its “alpha sites” during the pilot stage of Compass, one of which is Lethbridge.

HelpSeeker states, “The Compass project is a collaboration to build a technology platform that will increase access to support, optimize and transform service delivery, and generate better data for decision-making and investment.”

It looks to “connect the dots” between those seeking help, service providers, and decision-makers.

The company says users will be able to choose “when, where, and how they access help and share personal information” and be triaged to the appropriate service providers as needed.

Lethbridge Mayor Blaine Hyggen said the platform will be co-developed, implemented, and validated in the community to ensure it meets local needs.

“I’m thrilled to see support from our Federal Government to help us enable more people to receive the services and care they need in Lethbridge. We’ve long been advocating for supports and resources and this allows us to help connect those who need care to those who provide care. This new platform will allow services and information to be shared more widely and in an accessible way that meets people where they are.”

With Lethbridge being one of the alpha sites, the city will have a say in the design of the platform.

The City’s Community Social Services Development Manager Martin Thomsen believes Compass could prove to be of vital help to those needing it, as Lethbridge is home to more than 6,000 services.

“A lack of digitization and unifying technology in the social response has been a barrier to improving the wellbeing and safety of individuals and communities. This project will inspire new technology that will increase access to help, facilitate service coordination and generate better data for more responsive decision-making.”
