Active COVID cases fall sharply in South Zone

Feb 24, 2022 | 4:26 PM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The province has released its latest report on COVID-19 for Thursday, covering statistics from the past 24 hours.

682 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 523,786. Of those, 10,626 cases are active while 509,275 people have recovered.

With 3,436 tests conducted during that time, the positivity rate was 19.8 per cent.

It should be noted that, on January 10, the province limited the number of people who can get a PCR test from AHS for COVID-19 to only those in high-risk settings. This likely means that the amount of people who have actually contracted COVID since then would be higher than what is being reported by the province.

In the South Zone, 86 people tested positive with 23 in Lethbridge.

Active infections in the region fell by 456 and by 28 in the city.

Since yesterday’s update, two deaths were reported with one each in the Central and Edmonton Zones. To date, 3,885 people in the province have died as a result of the virus.

Provincially, 1,357 patients are currently hospitalized including 92 who have been admitted to intensive care. That marks a decrease of 16 for hospitalizations and an increase of two for ICU compared to our most recent report on Wednesday.
