BREAKING NEWS: Ukraine confirms capture of Chernobyl nuclear site by Russia
KYIV, UKRAINE – Canadian Press is reporting that an adviser to the Ukrainian Presidential Office says Ukraine has lost control of the Chernobyl nuclear site to Russian forces after a fierce battle.
The site of the world’s worst nuclear accident is just 130-kilometres north of Kyiv.
The nuclear reactor at the plant exploded in April 1986, sending a radioactive cloud across Europe. The exploded reactor was covered by a protective shelter several years ago to prevent radiation leaks.
The Russian Defence Ministry is confirming its ground forces moved into Ukraine from Crimea and claims it has destroyed 83 Ukrainian military facilities.
