Feb 24, 2022 | 11:12 AM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Travellers will soon be able to take public bussing to the Lethbridge Airport, courtesy of Lethbridge Transit and its cityLINK network.

Beginning May 4, Demand Response Transit will be offered to the airport. The service will be available on demand during all regular transit hours of operation and a kiosk will be added at the airport to facilitate trip requests. Trips can be booked to any location within cityLINK’s Demand Zone 103, which includes the Southgate Station cityHUB.

Demand response provides transport to zones where regular transit lines are not available. The service provides customers with access within each zone and connects customers to neighborhood and high-frequency lines.

Timothy Sanderson, Lethbridge Transit’s General Manager said staff is “so pleased to be able to offer this important service to Lethbridge residents and visitors.”

CUSTOMER FEEDBACK

Earlier this year, feedback was sought on the local transit service, which launched last August.

As part of the airport service announced, Sanderson said, “the benefit of the cityLINK network is that it can be modified to meet community needs and expand into new markets with no additional cost to taxpayers.”

Lethbridge Airport Manager Cameron Prince said, “we have been reviewing the initial results from the myYQL Community survey and it is clear that the community would like to see bus service to and from the airport.”

“We are excited to work with Lethbridge Transit on expanding on-demand service to the airport, providing our passengers with an additional transportation option.”

FURTHER IMPROVEMENTS TO cityLINK

Additional improvements to the cityLINK network scheduled for May 4 include extensions to the 1 Gold and 2 Blue lines, which will reduce the need to transfer at the University of Lethbridge.

There will also be an expansion of fixed-route service to Flamborough Gardens and the Chinook Medical Centre. In April, more details on exact routing and schedules will be released.

The City of Lethbridge noted that the improvements to cityLINK will have no additional budget impact on Lethbridge Transit.
