EDMONTON, AB – Premier Jason Kenney is shuffling his cabinet.

Tyler Shando and Kaycee Madu are switching positions with Shandro becoming the Minister of Justice and Solicitor General, while Madu will take over as the Minister of Labour and Immigration.

The two, who are both still in their first terms in office, will each assume their third positions as provincial ministers.

Shandro was first sworn in as the Health Minister in 2019. In September 2021, he became the Labour and Immigration Minister.

He resigned as Health Minister following intense scrutiny from anti-COVID restriction protesters and healthcare workers.

Madu started out as the Minister of Municipal Affairs in 2019 and became Justice Minister in August 2020.

He lost his position as Justice Minister in January after it was made public that Madu has phoned Edmonton’s police chief over a traffic ticket he had received.

Premier Jason Kenney shared the following statement regarding the new changes.

“I would like to thank Minister Madu for his critical work in addressing racism in Alberta’s justice system and for ending police carding in Alberta. I know that he will continue to be a strong advocate for equality of opportunity. I would like to thank Minister Shandro as well for his work in establishing the Premier’s Summit for Newcomers and for his work in fighting for fairness for newcomers.”

“I am confident that both ministers will continue to work hard to make life better for Albertans.”

Energy Minister Sonya Savage, who had also been the Acting Justice Minister since earlier this year, will no longer work in the Ministry of Justice.
