Trial for Lethbridge man charged in fatal impaired driving collision set for early 2023

LETHBRIDGE, AB – A Lethbridge man now knows when he will take the stand in a significant case involving alleged impaired driving.

In Lethbridge Court of Queen’s Bench on Monday, lawyers for the crown and defense agreed to hold a three-week judge and jury trial for 38-year-old Wesley Brian Phillips.

He is charged with failure or refusal to comply with a demand resulting in a collision causing death, operation of a motor vehicle while impaired/over 80mg% causing death, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death, and failing to comply with a probation order.

On November 25, 2019, a 66-year-old woman from Coalhurst was killed in a two-vehicle collision on Highway 3 at the intersection leading into Coalhurst.

Phillips’ trial is scheduled to take place from January 30 to February 17, 2023.

He has been ordered to remain in custody until the conclusion of the trial.
