U of L Pronghorns basketball teams set for Canada West playoffs

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The University of Lethbridge Pronghorns basketball teams are gearing up for the Canada West playoffs.

A new format will be implemented for the post-season this year. For the first time ever, a 17-team single knock-out tournament will determine who advances to the Canada West Final Four on both the men and women’s sides.

Men’s games will be played at the University of Lethbridge and the University of Calgary from Thursday, March 3 to Saturday, March 5.

Women’s games will be at the University of Calgary and Mount Royal University from Friday, March 4 to Sunday, 6.

The Canada West Final Four is set for March 18 to 20 and will be hosted by the highest seed remaining in the tournament.

The playoff seeding for the men’s teams is as follows:

1. University of Alberta Golden Bears
2. University of Victoria Vikes
3. University of Regina Cougars
4. University of Saskatchewan Huskies
5. University of British Columbia Thunderbirds
6. University of Calgary Dinos
7. University of Lethbridge Pronghorns
8. University of the Fraser Valley Cascades
9. University of Winnipeg Wesmen
10. University of Manitoba Bisons
11. Trinity Western University Spartans
12. Mount Royal University Cougars
13. University of Northern British Columbia Timberwolves
14. Brandon University Bobcats
15. Thompson Rivers University WolfPack
16. MacEwan University Griffins
17. University of British Columbia Okanagan Heat

The U of L Pronghorns men’s team, that finished 8-8 on the season, will begin their playoff run on home court at the U of L on Friday, March 4 at 8 p.m., with their opponent still to be determined.

WOMEN’S TEAMS

The Pronghorns women’s team, meanwhile, begins their quest for the Canada West championship on Saturday, March 5 with a matchup at Mount Royal University at 3 p.m. Their opponent is still to be determined.

The women’s team finished the regular season with a record of 10-6.
