Crews respond to apartment fire Thursday

LETHBRIDGE, ABUPDATE: The first has been deemed to be accidental and started in the kitchen. Damages are estimated at $75,000.

Fire crews responded to a fire at a multi-unit residential building in the 800 block of 4 Street South Thursday afternoon.

At approximately 3:00 pm, “crews from five stations arrived on scene to heavy dark smoke coming out of the main floor of a multi-unit dwelling,” the release reads.

The city says some residents were trapped inside and unable to self-evacuate due to heavy smoke.

Crews were able to secure the building and safely evacuate those residents.

No injuries were reported.

“Crews extinguished the fire and very little structure was affected. The multi-story building was evacuated, cleared of smoke and residents were able to re-enter their homes,” the city release reads.

More information will be provided when its made available. The fire is under investigation and a damage estimate is not yet known.
