LETHBRIDGE, AB – Cathy Gibson is the new News Director for Pattison Media Ltd. in Lethbridge. She brings more than 25 years of experience to Lethbridge News Now, Today’s Country 95.5 and All-Hits B93.

Gibson replaces outgoing News Director Dori Modney, who retired after a 32-year career in broadcasting.

Gibson says Modney leaves big shoes to fill. “Dori Modney was a trailblazer for journalists and for women in the broadcasting industry here in Southern Alberta. She was the first female radio broadcaster in Lethbridge back in the 1970s, and I am grateful to her for paving the way for so many of us.”

Gibson has been in the industry for many years herself. Her career has spanned the fields of broadcast news, media relations, and marketing communications. She was a news anchor, producer, reporter and videographer for Global Television and CBC Television-Radio Canada. She was also a journalism instructor at Lethbridge College and the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT). Additionally, she has held positions as the managing editor of a business magazine and the editor-in-chief of a digital business news portal, and she has edited articles for Forbes, Harvard Business Review, and other print and digital publications.

Gibson says she is up to the challenge of her new role as News Director for Pattison Media Ltd. in Lethbridge.

“It has been a very challenging couple of years for everyone, and some difficult issues have polarized our communities. I hope to help our news team provide balanced coverage of these challenging issues – and everyday stories – by presenting different perspectives to help build a broad understanding of the issues that affect Southern Alberta. Covering different perspectives on contentious issues reflects the different views in our community. By presenting these various, and sometimes opposing views, I’m optimistic that LNN can provide a strong understanding of the issues, possibly help bridge some divides, and highlight the strengths of Southern Albertans.”

Gibson understands the strength of Southern Albertans. She was born and raised in Lethbridge, and after living in many different places throughout her career, she is excited about covering news in her hometown again.

“The wind blew me away for a while,” she jokes, “but Lethbridge is my hometown, and I care deeply about our community. Southern Albertans are strong and caring at the same time, and I can’t wait to reflect that in our news coverage, so people can see how resilient and understanding our community truly is.”

Gibson replaced Modney as News Director March 1, 2022.
