Lethbridge Hurricanes beat Regina Pats in OT

LETHBRIDGE, AB — The Lethbridge Hurricanes came from behind to outscore the Regina Pats in overtime Saturday, March 5, 2022.

It was the 11th come-from-behind victory for the Hurricanes so far this season.

The teams took to the ice at Regina’s Brandt Centre in game three of the Hurricanes’ seven-game road trip.

The Pats outshot the Hurricanes 19-6 to make it 2-0 at the end of the first period.

The Pats held on to their lead in the second period, but the ‘Canes answered back with two goals. Corson Hopwo got his 10th goal of the season with assists from Joe Arntsen and Liekit Reichle. About five minutes later, Ty Nash scored his 17th of the year with a long-range wrist shot. The score at the end of the second stood at 4-2 for the Pats.

The Hurricanes came on strong in the third period. Just over one minute in, Jett Jones scored his 15th goal of the season with assists from Yegor Klavdiev and Logan McCutcheon. The ‘Canes tied it up with just 38 seconds left in the game when Jones tapped in a shot with assists from Klavdiev and Alex Thacker.

In an overtime power play, ‘Canes leading scorer Justin Hall tipped in his 29th goal of the season, and eighth game-winning goal, to claim the ‘Canes 5-4 come-from-behind victory. Klavdiev and Thacker earned the assists on the winning goal.

The three stars of the game were:
1) Hurricanes – #9 Justin Hall (1 goal)
2) Hurricanes – #17 Jett Jones (2 goals)
3) Pats – #19 Tye Spencer (1 goal, 1 assist)

The Hurricanes continue their road trip in Prince Albert Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. before heading to Saskatoon to face the Blades on Wednesday. The Hurricanes’ next home game will be a rematch against the Regina Pats March 16th.
