Alberta COVID hospitalizations drop significantly over past four days

Mar 7, 2022 | 4:34 PM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The province has released its latest report on COVID-19 for Monday, covering statistics from the past four days.

1,615 new cases were confirmed across the province in that time period, bringing the total to 528,717. Of those, 7,158 cases are active while 517,587 people have recovered.

An average of 403 new cases were recorded over the last four days.

It should be noted that, on January 10, the province limited the number of people who can get a PCR test from AHS for COVID-19 to only those in high-risk settings. This likely means that the number of people who have actually contracted COVID since then would be higher than what is being reported by the province.

In the South Zone, 155 people tested positive with 79 in Lethbridge.

Since Thursday’s update, 26 Albertans died from COVID with five in the South Zone. To date, 3,972 people in the province have died as a result of the virus.

Two of the five deaths were for people in West and South Lethbridge.

Provincially, 1,103 patients are currently hospitalized including 77 who have been admitted to intensive care. This marks a decrease of 101 for hospitalizations and three for ICU compared to our most recent report on Thursday.
