STAND OFF, AB – Crime Stoppers is now active on the Blood Tribe.

Crime Stoppers is a charitable non-profit that allows people to provide tips and anonymously report information about crimes or suspicious behaviour. Information that leads to an arrest is eligible for a reward of up to $2,000. The program relies entirely on the public for donations.

Blood Tribe Crime Stoppers is the first Indigenous chapter of Crime Stoppers in Canada.

A release from the newly launched chapter stated, “crime in our communities requires innovative, effective programs which generate information for law enforcement agencies dealing with criminal activity.”

“By encouraging greater public participation, the police have a better chance combating crime in our communities.”

Anonymous information can be submitted by calling 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) and speaking with a trained information call-taker, by using the Crime Stoppers website and submitting a secure online tip, or by using the p3tips app, available on the Google Play and Apple Store.

Information is then passed on to investigators of the case at the appropriate law enforcement agency. The tipster is never identified but is assigned a code number. Police will inform Crime Stoppers on how the case is progressing, so tipsters are reminded to call back for an update on the case during regular business hours.
