Charges laid in connection with Siksika Nation death

SIKSIKA NATION, AB – Charges have been laid in relation to a suspicious death on the Siksika Nation.

On February 27, 2022, Gleichen RCMP responded to a report of an unresponsive female at a residence on the Siksika Nation. The woman was found deceased in the home. At the time, the RCMP indicated that the circumstances around her death were suspicious.

The Alberta RCMP’s Major Crimes Unit took over the investigation and charges have since been laid. 41-year-old Barry Junior Yellowfly of the Siksika Nation has been charged with second degree murder for the death of Mardi Scalplock. Her death was deemed a homicide after an autopsy was completed on March 2 in Calgary.
