COVID rapid test -- AHS

Hospitalizations drop, 593 new COVID cases in Alberta Wednesday

Mar 16, 2022 | 6:04 PM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The province has released its latest report on COVID-19 for Wednesday, covering statistics from the past 24 hours.

593 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 533,164. Of those, 6,449 cases are active while 522,702 people have recovered.

It should be noted that, on January 10, the province limited the number of people who can get a PCR test from AHS for COVID-19 to only those in high-risk settings. This likely means that the number of people who have actually contracted COVID since then would be higher than what is being reported by the province.

Since the lifting of restrictions, Health Minister Jason Copping says the COVID situation has improved.

Copping adds that, at this point in the pandemic, longer-term trends are more important than day-to-day fluctuations.

Starting on the week of Monday, March 21, COVID-19 data, including cases and outbreaks, will only be reported by AHS once per week on Wednesdays.

Province to limit reporting of COVID numbers, wind down RAPID testing program

The number of people that have from COVID-19 since the pandemic began is 4,013.

Provincially, 989 patients are currently hospitalized including 70 who have been admitted to intensive care. This marks a decrease of 12 for hospitalizations and no changes for ICU compared to our most recent report on Tuesday.
