Health and safety issues for women in agriculture
LETHBRIDGE, AB — Safety may be an afterthought when women work on a farm, but AgSafe Alberta is trying to educate people on the potential risks.
AgSafe Alberta is the health and safety association for agricultural producers in Alberta.
The agency says pesticides and other chemical exposures, zoonotic diseases, and even heavy lifting can present potential harm to women, especially during child-bearing years.
AgSafe Alberta is raising awareness about pregnancy and fertility concerns by providing training for farmers on how to identify unique exposures and risks associated with farm tasks.
