New “Lethbridge Loop” app notifies of all planned city activities

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Forgot when you are supposed to take the garbage out? There’s an app for that.

The City of Lethbridge has launched a new free mobile app on iOS and Android devices called “Lethbridge Loop.”

It will give reminders of planned city activities such as dates for waste and recycling pickup, planned power outages, street sweeping, and water main work.

You can also play a game where, for waste purposes, you sort different items into the correct place. For example, you have to decide where the best place to dispose of an old microwave would be.

Mayor Blaine Hyggen says the app will add a layer of convenience to the everyday lives of Lethbridge residents.

“I’m excited to see the city take steps to directly communicate with residents about the things that matter in their daily lives and I look forward to being the ‘binfluencer’ on my street and encourage others to download the app and get in the loop.”

Currently, the City uses a text reminder service. Starting in April, the cost of the service was set to increase so municipal officials decided to create their own app instead.

“The cost for sending text updates is much higher than what it was at one time. We’re going to save up to that $10,000 a year by having it part of the app.”

As a way to incentivize residents to get in the Loop, the City is offering two prize packs to residents who download the app. To enter the contest and learn more about the details and conditions, head to the City’s social media pages.

Contest winners will be contacted directly by April 8 and will need to comply with the City’s standard contest terms and conditions.
