LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes have signed a new defenseman.

2006-born Tristen Doyle has signed a Western Hockey League (WHL) Standard Player Agreement with the club. The 16-year-old was selected by the ‘Canes 17th overall in the first round of the 2021 WHL Prospects Draft in December.

From Bonnyville, he appeared in 33 games totaling 42 points (10 goals, 32 assists), along with 39 penalty minutes this season with the Northern Alberta Xtreme U18 Prep team of the Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL). In four post-season games, he scored one goal and recorded two assists, along with two penalty minutes.

General manager of the Hurricanes, Peter Anholt said, “we are thrilled to be able to get Tristen signed and add him to our 2006-born group with [Miguel] Marques and [Trae] Wilke.”

“We are really proud of how our leadership group has taken their young teammates in and embraced them and to help push them to be better and how they continually show what it is to be Hurricanes. We are excited to add Tristen along with Marques, [Ethan] Chadwick and [Brady] Smith to our group.”

Doyle’s 42 points this season ranked him fifth in team scoring for the Xtreme while leading all rearguards in goals and points. Doyle finished second among defensemen in points and goals in the entire CSSHL U18 league and finished first among 2006-born blueliners. Additionally, he totaled five assists in five games for Team Alberta at the 2021 WHL Cup tournament in Red Deer.

Doyle joins the Hurricanes for the rest of the season and is expected to make his WHL debut this weekend. Lethbridge hosts the Edmonton Oil Kings Friday, March 25 at the ENMAX Centre before traveling to Edmonton on Sunday.
