MEDICINE HAT, AB – One of the organizers of the “Freedom Convoy” occupation in downtown Ottawa is facing new criminal charges.

Tamara Lich, of Medicine Hat, is charged with mischief, counselling mischief, intimidation, counselling intimidation, counselling obstruction of police, and obstructing police.

Lich was arrested on Feb. 17, 2022, a day before police began moving in to clear demonstrators from downtown Ottawa streets, and charged with counselling mischief.

She remained in custody for almost three weeks until March 7, when she was granted bail with strict conditions. Lich returned to Medicine Hat on March 12.

Lich was jointly charged on Thursday, March 24 along with another convoy organizer, Chris Barber. He was also arrested on February 17 and was released the next day.

Another prominent leader of the protest, Pat King, is also facing new charges after appearing in court Thursday afternoon.

King, who remains in custody at the Ottawa-Carleton Detention Centre, now faces 10 charges along with a co-accused, Tyson George Billings.

Those include two counts each of intimidation and obstructing police.

A parliamentary committee heard Thursday that the Ontario Provincial Police identified the demonstration as a national security threat one week before the federal government invoked the Emergencies Act.
