Drugs, firearm, cash seized during arrest in Lethbridge

LETHBRIDGE, AB – A Lethbridge man faces charges related to the trafficking of illegal substances.

Members of the Crime Suppression team conducted a short-term investigation into drug trafficking in various downtown locations.

Officers searched a home in the 500 block of 12 Street South on Wednesday, March 30, 2022, and arrested one man without incident.

They seized a firearm, more than $24,000 in cash, and more than $5,200 worth of drugs including 41.44 grams of methamphetamine, 13.4 grams of fentanyl, and small amounts of cocaine and codeine pills.

Police also confiscated suspected stolen property.

Robert Joseph Zimmer, 47, of Lethbridge, has been charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, two counts of possession of a controlled substance, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, possession of an identity document, possession of a firearm obtained by crime, unauthorized possession of a firearm, careless storage of a firearm, and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace.

As the investigation is ongoing, more charges may be laid later.

Zimmer was released from custody following a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear in court on April 21, 2022.
