Hurricanes defeated on home ice Wednesday

LETHBRIDGE, AB — The Lethbridge Hurricanes outshot the Swift Current Broncos at the ENMAX Centre Wednesday night, but the Broncos claimed the 6-4 victory.

FIRST PERIOD

The Hurricanes’ goalie Bryan Thomson started strong, blocking the first nine shots of the game. The Broncos eventually snuck two goals past him to end the first period with a 2-0 lead.

SECOND PERIOD

The Hurricanes dominated the second period, doubling the Broncos’ shots on goal 18-9.

Yegor Klavdiev started the ‘Canes scoring during a power play. It was Klavdiev’s 17th goal of the season, and Logan McCutcheon and Justin Hall earned the assists.

The Hurricanes then tied it up 2-2 with a slap shot by Chase Pauls, which was his sixth goal of the season. Hayden Smith and Brayden Edwards were credited with the assists.

The Broncos answered back with two more goals in less than a minute, but then Corson Hopwo from the ‘Canes scored his 12th goal of the season, to make it 4-3 Swift Current at the end of the second period.

THIRD PERIOD

The Hurricanes tied it up again early in the third period, when Miguel Marques scored the second goal of his career, with assists from Logan Wormald and Brayden Edwards. The Broncos answered back with a five-on-three power play goal, and an empty-net goal to win the game 6-4.

The ‘Canes outshot the Broncos 37-34, but the game loss drops the Hurricanes to eighth place in the Eastern Conference.
