Arrest made following string of thefts in Lethbridge

LETHBRIDGE, AB — Lethbridge Police have made an arrest in connection to a series of thefts in the city this week.

On Tuesday, March 29, 2022, Police received a report of an attempted theft of the charity donation box at the Wendy’s restaurant at 230 Scenic Drive South. The suspect was stopped by staff and left on foot.

Moments later, police received a second report that the donation box had been stolen from the Tim Horton’s restaurant nearby.

That charity box was later found, but it was empty.

Then on Wednesday, March 30, police were called following a theft at the Circle K on 7 Street and 6 Avenue South. The description of the suspect matched the earlier incidents.

Police released photos of the suspect, which we posted on Lethbridge News Now.

Thanks to public input, the Lethbridge Police Service was able to arrest a suspect on Thursday, March 31, 2022.

Alexander Louis Harsanyi, 28, of Calgary has been charged with one count of theft under $5000, one count of theft under $5,000 (shoplifting), and two counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000.

Harsanyi was released from custody, and is scheduled to appear in court May 11, 2022.
