Trials scheduled in Lethbridge for two facing child sex-related charges

Apr 4, 2022 | 1:35 PM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Two people are set to face trials later this year in connection to alleged sexual activities involving minors.

Back in August 2021, 10 people were charged by LPS, RCMP, Calgary Police Service, and ALERT’s Human Trafficking Counter Exploitation Unit.

Throughout the entire court process thus far, lawyers representing each of the accused have been clear to state that none of them are co-accused, but rather, are charged on similar matters.

Meriton Krasniqi, 26, previously plead not guilty to two counts of sexual assault and one count each of sexual interference, invitation to sexual touching, sexual assault causing bodily harm, sexual assault – party to an offence with another person, aggravated sexual assault, and trafficking persons under 18.

He is now scheduled to have a trial in Lethbridge Provincial Court on September 9, 2022.

Khaled Alsaid, 22, will have two separate trials.

The first is for a single count of sexual assault, set to be held on September 19, 2022.

The other trial will run from December 21-23, 2022. On that matter, he faces charges of sexual interference, sexual contact with a child, and sexual counselling.

Lawyers for all of the accused admit that court proceedings have been slow to the point. This is because they have been provided with significant amounts of disclosure to review with many media files, much of which had not been organized or titled properly.
