BILD Lethbridge Region celebrates winners of first ‘Who BILDs it Best’ competition

LETHBRIDGE, AB – BILD Lethbridge Region has announced the winners of the first ever ‘Who BILDs it Best’ competition.

It took place at the Southern Alberta Home & Garden Show the weekend of March 30-April 2, 2022.

BILD Lethbridge Region, along with CAREERS, partnered on the building competition presented by Alberta New Home Warranty Program. It highlighted the skills of high school students, and “pros” in residential construction in Lethbridge and the surrounding area.

Each day, teams were tasked to build a different project in 50 minutes, using only the materials they were provided. They competed for prizes and the title of BILDer Grand Champion for 2022.

BILD Lethbridge Region explained that the competition was broken into two divisions, the high school students and the “pros”.

The high school portion saw three teams of two students, 18 total, from five different high schools in Lethbridge and the surrounding area. Participants competed for the title of Student BILDer Champion from Wednesday, March 30 to Friday, April 1 2022.

The high school winners were:

Day 1 – Jeffrey Van Velthuizen and Brandon Slingerland from Calvin Christina High School

Day 2 – Braydon Bilinski and Isabelle Davies from Catholic Central High School

Day 3 – Trina Pham and Ysabella Torres from Catholic Central High School

The winning teams won $100 courtesy of KB Heating, as well as tools from Lealta Building Supplies.

The “pros” division saw seven teams of two professionals with varying experience compete over three days to earn a spot in the final, which tool place Saturday, April 2 2022.

The three teams that earned their spots in the final were challenged with 15 minutes of predesign work and 80 minutes t execute their projects. The theme was ‘outdoor living’.

Team Stranville Living Master Builder #1 “without hair”, comprised of Joel Spanos and Keegan Fleming, walked away with the title of BILDer Grand Champions 2022, and $600 in prize money.

Team Stranville Living Master Builder #2 “with hair”, comprised of Samantha McDonald and Corey Erdos, won second place, which came with a $300 prize.

Second year carpentry students on Team College, Andrew Neels and Taren Perry, placed third and won $150. All materials and prizes were donated by BILD Lethbridge Region members.
