Hurricanes beat visiting Hitmen 5-1 Saturday night

LETHBRIDGE, AB – In front of a crowd of 4,106 at the ENMAX Centre in Lethbridge, the Hurricanes picked up a big 5-1 victory over the visiting Calgary Hitmen.

FIRST PERIOD

Tristen Doyle got the action rolling 1:08 into the first, scoring his first goal of the season to put Lethbridge up 1-0 early. Alex Thacker and Justin Hall earned the assists.

Calgary tied things up at 4:26, with David Adaszynski scoring his seventh of the year. At the end of the first period, the game was tied 1-1.

Only one penalty was called in the opening frame, with Corson Hopwo (Lethbridge) receiving a minor for holding.

SECOND PERIOD

1:21 into the second, Jett Jones put Lethbridge up 2-1. Tyson Laventure earned the assist.

Hurricane Liekit Reichle was issued a minor penalty for high sticking at 15:09 before the period ended. Heading into the third, Lethbridge led 2-1.

THIRD PERIOD

The hosting Hurricanes gained the 3-1 lead at 8:11 in the third period, with Joe Arntsen scoring his eighth goal of the season, assisted by Chase Pauls.

Lethbridge must have felt the energy of the crowd, scoring two more goals before the game’s end.

Liekit Reichle scored at 16:59 and Jett Jones scored at 19:22 to seal the deal and secure the 5-1 win for the Hurricanes!

A handful of penalties were issued in the third period.

Tristan Zandee (Lethbridge) was issued a minor penalty for roughing at 8:28. His teammate Brayden Edwards received a minor for tripping at 9:46. At 13:31 Calgary’s Tyson Galloway was given a minor for checking to the head and Lethbridge’s Noah Chadwick was issued a minor for hooking at 18:54.

THREE STARS & UP NEXT

Hurricane Jett Jones was named the first star of the game, with teammate Joe Arntsen named the second and Tristen Doyle the third star of the game.

The Lethbridge Hurricanes only have two more games left on their regular season schedule. They play host to the Moose Jaw Warriors on Friday, April 15 (7:00 p.m.) at the ENMAX Centre before closing out the season on Sunday, April 17 (2:00 p.m.) in Calgary against the Hitmen.

The Hitmen, meanwhile, are back on the ice Sunday, April 10 for an afternoon meeting with Edmonton in Calgary. Game time is 2:00 p.m.
