LETHBRIDGE, AB – A new child-friendly city map has been developed in Lethbridge.

It’s a way to help parents and kids find their way to playful opportunities in the city. The map features fun things to do around town, as well as new places to explore.

A group of Lethbridge Plays stakeholders worked together to develop and plan the map.

Ideas were gathered from local families, and volunteers and staff working at each of the various organizations involved.

Coreen Putman, the Helen Schuler Nature Centre’s Manager and Lethbridge Plays co-chair noted that “more than 50 adults and kids contributed ideas for the Kid’s Map of Lethbridge.”

“Highlighting favouring locations and activities was such a fun project to bring together.”

The maps are available in time for the Easter long weekend and for spring break.

CITY-WIDE TREASURE HUNT

Additionally, starting on Saturday, April 16 and running through to Friday, April 22, a city-wide treasure hunt of play map locations will offer multiple chances for families to win play activity packs and prizes.

Five locations on the Kid’s Map of Lethbridge are special sites, with unique opportunities for prizes. These select sites will have a ‘First Finder’ prize as well as an opportunity for every Finder to enter to win a play prize.

Vicki Hazelwood, Coordinator of Building Brains Together and co-chair of Lethbridge Plays said, “parents, community organizations and policy-makers simply can’t over-estimate the importance and value of play.”

“Ensuring there are accessible, quality resources to assist them in prioritizing that is what Lethbridge Plays is working towards.”

Maps are available for free at the Helen Schuler Nature Centre, the Lethbridge Public Library Main Branch and Crossings Branch.

Other participating map pick-up locations are available at the Lethbridge Plays website.
