Canes crush Moose Jaw in 5-4 overtime win

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes narrowly overcame their visitors to the ENMAX Centre.

In their Good Friday clash, the Canes defeated the Moose Jaw Warriors 5-4.

Lethbridge made it onto the scoreboard first with a goal by Yegor Klavdiev at the 6:30 mark in the first period. He had assists from Tyson Laventure and Jett Jones.

Moose Jaw got retribution early on with two successful shots on net.

The Canes capped off the second period with a pair of goals.

Brayden Edwards hit the net thanks to assists from Miguel Marques and Logan Wormald at the 9:39 mark in the second.

Edwards scored again about eight minutes later, this time on a power play with help from Joe Arntsen and Tyson Laventure.

It looked like the Warriors were about to win, bringing the contest to 4-3 in their favour with just one minute remaining.

Alex Thacker evened things up for the Hurricanes at the 19:05 mark in the third period with Logan McCutcheon and Yegor Klavdiev making assists.

The overtime period lasted just one minute before Klavdiev secured the win for Lethbridge. Brayden Edwards and Joe Artsen helped.

All three stars of the game were members of the Lethbridge Hurricanes with Justin Hall #1, Kade Nolan #2, and Corson Hopwo #3.

The Canes’ win came despite being outshot 39-32.

Lethbridge’s final regular-season game is Sunday, April 17 as the Canes head to Calgary for a matchup with the Hitmen at 2:00 pm.

The WHL Playoffs commence next week with the Hurricanes’ first game scheduled for Thursday, April 21 against the Oil Kings in Edmonton.
