WHL outlines U.S. Priority and Prospects Draft selections

CALGARY, AB – The Western Hockey League (WHL) has outlined the selection order for both the WHL Prospects Draft and WHL U.S. Priority Draft.

The Medicine Hat Tigers will select first overall in the 2022 Prospects Draft, which is scheduled for Thursday, May 19, 2022, with first-round coverage to be live streamed on WHL Live.

All six WHL clubs that did not qualify for the 2022 WHL Playoffs participated in the draft lottery to determine the selection order. The lottery established the order for the first six picks in the first round, with the inverse order of standings from the 2021-2022 regular season determined the order of selection for the second round and all subsequent rounds.

Below is the order for the second round, and all subsequent rounds.

Players eligible for the 2022 WHL Prospects Draft will be 2007-born players who reside in Alberta, B.C., Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Northwest Territories, Yukon, Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.

2022 WHL U.S. PRIORITY DRAFT

The Edmonton Oil Kings have received the first overall pick in the 2022 WHL U.S. Priority Draft.

That draft is set for Wednesday, May 18, 2022 and will be conducted online. It will consist of two rounds and 44 selections, with each WHL club presented the opportunity to have two selections.

Below is the order of selection for the first and second rounds:

Players who are eligible for the 2022 WHL U.S. Priority Draft will be 2007-born players who reside in Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming.

Those not selected in the 2022 WHL U.S. Priority Draft will remain eligible to be selected in the 2022 WHL Prospects Draft on Thursday, May 19, 2022, or listed by a WHL Club at any time thereafter.
