LETHBRIDGE, AB – Barrhead, Alberta’s Gavin Moes has committed to the Lethbridge College Kodiaks men’s volleyball team.

The six-foot-seven outside attacker is the third member of the Moes family to represent the program, joining his brothers Dylan (2019-2020) and Nolan, who will be entering his third season with the Kodiaks next fall.

Gavin said he is very excited to play alongside his brother Nolan. He stated, “getting the opportunity to stand next to my brother for a national anthem and compete for a championship is a dream come true.”

“Nolan had the opportunity to play with Dylan and watching their relationship grow closer was something I always wanted to experience.”

Moes will also be teaming Barrhead Composite alumni Cameron Piers on the Kodiaks roster.

He said, “not only am I excited to play with my brother but also my former teammate Cameron, and potentially having three athletes from Barrhead on the floor together.”

“The motivation to win in Lethbridge and with my brother has never been higher and I believe in this group to push me to become the best version of myself.”

Kodiaks head coach Greg Gibos was nothing but complimentary for Moes both on and off the court.

“He had offers not only from every college in the country, but national contenders at the USports level. He is clearly one of the top three U18 players in the province and we’re fortunate he believes in this program, institution, and family to continue to grow as a person.”

“It gives me goosebumps thinking about him and his brother getting to battle on the floor together in front of a full Val Matteotti Gym and having a chance to enhance the foundation of their relationship.”

Gibos said Moes is “an extremely talented volleyball player, but an even better leader.”

The coach added, “what stands out for me was watching him compete with his high school team and celebrating successes at every turn.”

“I distinctly remember watching him pick up teammates when they were struggling and being the first person to celebrate their accomplishments. He’s going to make every single person in this program better. He’s a special talent and I believe one day he has the potential to represent our national team. It’s a monumental day for our program.”

When asked about his biggest influences, Moes mentioned his strong connection and thankfulness for his faith. He stated, “I have to thank God for all the gifts he’s provided me and opportunities moving forward.”

“My family is also a key driving force in my life and I know they have made tremendous sacrifices for me. My parents are critical to my success, and I know they are my biggest supporters.”

Before suiting up for the Kodiaks next season, Moes will compete with the FOG Under-18 Black volleyball team April 30 to May 1 and will look to bring home an Under-18 provincial championship.
