LETHBRIDGE, AB – Lawyers will now work to set trial dates for a person accused in the death of a woman late last year.
In Lethbridge Court of Queen’s Bench on Monday, April 25, 2022, Melissa Martens-Lagasse, 26, of Medicine Hat, entered pleas of not guilty to one count each of first-degree murder and causing an indignity to human remains.
On Friday, November 19, 2021, Megan Eekma, 34, of Calgary, was travelling with another person from B.C. to Alberta. During the trip, the Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit says an interaction occurred, resulting in her death.
Martens-Lagasse is set to face a trial by judge and jury, although dates have not been set yet.
