COVID creeping back up in Alberta as all reported metrics rising

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The province has released its latest weekly report on COVID-19. The numbers reported in this update reflect data from April 19-25, 2022.

In that time, 6,592 cases were confirmed across the province for a daily average of 941.

The South Zone saw 446 cases or 64 per day.

191 people in Lethbridge tested positive, equalling 27 per day.

Since last week’s report, 65 Albertans died from COVID with 29 in the Edmonton Zone, 16 in the Calgary Zone, nine in the Central Zone, seven in the South Zone, and four in the North Zone. To date, 4,252 Albertans have died as a result of the virus.

The deaths in the South Zone were for two residents each in South Lethbridge and Medicine Hat, and one each in Brooks, the County of Warner, and Crowsnest Pass.

Provincially, 1,220 patients are currently hospitalized including 47 in ICU. This marks increases of 94 for hospitalizations and four for ICU compared to last week’s report.

As COVID metrics started to decrease earlier this year, hospitalizations dropped to a fifth-wave low of 964 on March 30, 2022. Approximately one month later, hospitalizations have increased by 256.

    • 227,595 cases
    • 446 in hospital, 19 in ICU
    • 1,158 deaths (16 new)
  • Edmonton Zone
    • 181,061 cases
    • 411 in hospital, 21 in ICU
    • 1,658 deaths (29 new)
  • North Zone
    • 61,781 cases
    • 118 in hospital, two in ICU
    • 516 deaths (four new)
  • Central Zone
    • 57,634 cases
    • 172 in hospital, three in ICU
    • 543 deaths (nine new)
  • South Zone
    • 36,761 cases
    • 73 in hospital, two in ICU
    • 380 deaths (seven new)

  • Medicine Hat – 7,730 cases (118 new), 97 deaths (two new)
  • Brooks – 2,688 cases (21 new), 33 deaths (one new)
  • Lethbridge County – 2,800 cases (23 new), 23 deaths
  • Cardston County – 2,753 cases (13 new), 47 deaths
  • M.D. of Taber – 1,696 cases (five new), 19 deaths
