LPS looking for witnesses of assault on student Friday morning

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) wants to hear from anybody who witnessed an assault near a local middle school.

At approximately 7:40 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. on Friday, May 6, 2022, police say a student was walking toward Gilbert Paterson Middle School in the area of 20 Street and 12 Avenue South when an unknown man grabbed the student from behind and put his arms around the student’s neck.

An unrelated vehicle slowed down near where the incident was happening, prompting the suspect to let go of the student and run southbound on 20 Street South.

The man is described as being Caucasian, 5’10”, and wearing a black hoodie, black sweatpants, and black gloves.
