May 8, 2022 | 4:45 PM

COUNTY OF NEWELL, AB – The RCMP Major Crimes Unit has been called to a home in the County of Newell.

At approximately 8:00 pm on Saturday, May 7, 2022, a woman, 29, and a child, eight months old, were found deceased.

The father of the child entered the home and discovered the bodies.

As RCMP investigated, they searched the area and found another man deceased a short distance away. Autopsies were performed and the deceased man was confirmed to be a sibling of the deceased woman.

Their investigation shows that the deceased man died as a result of self-inflicted wounds.

“This is a tragic loss of life and very difficult circumstances for the family and community of the victims,” says Staff Sgt. Erick Youngstrom of the Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit. “We will be continuing to investigate and seeking to determine what took place. The family has asked for privacy at this time.”

RCMP says there is no risk to the public.
