70 COVID deaths reported in Alberta over the past week

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The province has released its latest weekly report on COVID-19. The numbers reported in this update reflect data from May 3-9, 2022.

During that time, 4,551 cases were confirmed across the province for a daily average of 650. With 21,906 tests conducted during that period, the positivity rate was 20.8%

In the South Zone, 294 people tested positive, or 42 each day.

There was a total of 106 new cases in Lethbridge, averaging 15 each day.

Over the last week, 70 Albertans died from COVID, including 26 in the Edmonton Zone, 19 in the Calgary Zone, 13 in the Central Zone, eight in the North Zone, and four in the South Zone. To date, 4,391 Albertans have died as a result of the virus.

The deaths in the South Zone were for one resident each in West Lethbridge, Lethbridge County, Cardston County, and Cypress County.

Provincially, 1,225 patients are currently hospitalized, including 37 who have been admitted to intensive care. This marks a decrease of 42 for hospitalizations and 10 for ICU compared to last week’s report.

  • 184,430 cases

  • 62,546 cases
  • 118 in hospital, one in ICU
  • 531 deaths (eight new)
• Central Zone
  • 58,624 cases
  • 157 in hospital, three in ICU
  • 567 deaths (13 new)
• South Zone
  • 37,455 cases
  • 83 in hospital, three in ICU
  • 390 deaths (four new)
