CBSA issues reminder on continued closure of Chief Mountain border crossing

May 13, 2022 | 9:13 AM

WATERTON PARK, AB – The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) is reminding travellers that the seasonal Chief Mountain, Alberta border crossing is closed until further notice.

The AB Highway 6 border crossing has not been opened since the start of the pandemic. The crossing is located on the boundary of Waterton Lakes National Park.

The CBSA says the continued closure is needed to ensure enhanced health screening and management of border wait times at the busiest ports of entry.

The agency notes that drivers travelling to Canada must use an alternative port of entry, like the Carway border crossing (on AB Highway 2) or the Coutts border crossing (on AB Highway 4).

The CBSA is taking a phased approach to gradually reopen sites still impacted by temporary measures put in place, such as the closure at Chief Mountain.

More information about border crossing closures and openings is available through the Government of Canada website.
