LETHBRIDGE, AB – A Lethbridge man convicted of sexual assault will learn his fate in two weeks.

In Lethbridge Provincial Court on Tuesday, May 17, a sentencing date of May 31, 2022, was set for 35-year-old Sohil Bindra.

On May 5, Bindra was found guilty of three counts of sexual assault, three counts of administering a stupefying or overpowering drug, one count of break and enter to commit a sexual assault, one count of possession of a controlled substance (cocaine), and one count of possession of a controlled substance (GHB).

The court heard from four women who said they were sexually assaulted by Bindra, three of whom stated that they passed out shortly after consuming drinks given to them by Bindra. Each of the incidents took place between March 2018 and February 2020.

While the presiding judge noted that there was a small amount of doubt in some of the individual cases due to the victims’ lack of memory, the fact that they all had similar experiences involving Bindra made their cases much stronger. It also formed what the judge said was a pattern of consistency in Bindra’s behaviour.

Bindra will remain in custody until his sentencing hearing May 31, 2022.
