13 players selected by Hurricanes in 2022 WHL Prospects Draft

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes selected 13 players in the 2022 WHL Prospects Draft on Thursday, May 19.

Lethbridge’s first round selection came at 11th overall. The team chose defenseman William Sharpe. The 2007-born skater played in 21 games in 2021-2022 with the Yale Hockey Academy U15 Prep team, where he totalled 42 points (19 goals, 23 assists) along with 38 penalty minutes. He finished fourth in the league among rearguards. The South Delta, B.C.-born player added five points (two goals, three assists) in three playoff games at the U15 level.

Sharpe also skated in four regular season matchups with the Yale U17 team, in addition to three post-season games with the Yale U18 club. He racked up five points (three goals and two assists) in five games with the Pro Hockey Selects U15 team at the WSI U15 showcase.

With the Hurricanes’ second pick, they selected forward Kash Andresen 33rd overall. Originally from Saskatoon, Andresen spent the 2021-2022 season with the Saskatoon Bandits U15 AA club, where he scored 25 goals and dished out 32 assists, along with 50 penalty minutes in 31 games.

He finished first in Bandits regular season scoring while finishing second in playoff scoring with 15 points (seven goals, eight assists) and 16 penalty minutes in nine playoff games. Andresen is the younger brother of Medicine Hat Tiger defenseman Reid Andresen.

Lethbridge had a pair of third round picks. At 48th overall, the team took goaltender Koen Cleaver from Port Alberni, B.C.

He played in 15 games with the Pacific Coast Hockey Academy U15 Prep team, posting a record of 9-2-2 with a 2.85 goals against average and a .910 save percentage, in addition to two shutouts.

With their 55th overall pick, the ‘Canes drafted defenseman Carsen Adair.

In 28 games with the Martensville Marauders U15 AA team, he collected 34 points (eight goals, 26 assists), along with 44 penalty minutes. He added three points (one goal, two assists) and six penalty minutes in six playoff matchups.

In the sixth round, the Hurricanes selected forward Shea Busch 121st overall. From North Vancouver, Busch scored 12 goals and had 17 assists, along with 14 penalty minutes with the Yale U15 Prep team. He added two goals and one assist in three playoff games while totalling four points (two goals, two assists) in four playoff games for the Yale U17 team.

Lethbridge selected forward Gage Nagel with the 147th overall pick in the seventh round. He suited up last season with the Notre Dame Hounds for 29 games, where he collected eight goals and eight assists with 34 penalty minutes. The Swift Current-born forward is the cousin of former Lethbridge Hurricanes player Tanner Nagel.

The Hurricanes acquired the 204th overall pick from the Prince George Cougars. With that pick, they selected defenseman Zachary Larmour. From Edmonton, he scored five goals and had 15 assists, along with 10 penalty minutes in 28 games with the Northern Alberta Xtreme U15 Prep team.

Lethbridge then selected forward Nate Crashley with the 2019th pick. Crashley is from Calgary and skated in 28 games with the Edge U15 Prep club, where he scored four goals and had nine assists, with 18 penalty minutes. He added five points (two goals, three assists) in eight games at the U17 level with Edge during the 2021-2022 year.

In the eleventh round, Lethbridge picked Medicine Hat’s Cole Fisher 231st overall. In 2021-2022, the forward scored 12 goals and had 11 assists, with 14 penalty minutes, in 20 games with the SEAC Tigers U15 AAA team.

At the 253rd spot, the ‘Canes selected defenseman Kaden Woodcox. He scored five goals and had 12 assists, with 18 penalty minutes in 30 games with the Okanagan Rockets U15 AAA team. The Fort St. John, B.C. product added two goals and four assists in seven playoff games.

Lucas Hvidston was chosen 275th overall. From Tisdale, Saskatchewan, he registered 23 goals and 25 assists, along with 20 penalty minutes, in 25 games with the North East Wolfpack U15 AA team. The forward is the younger brother of Swift Current Broncos forward Connor Hvidston.

In the 14th round, with their final selection, the Hurricanes picked defenseman Rhett Vedress 297th overall. The 2006-born player from Annaheim, Saskatchewan spent the 2021-2022 season with the Humboldt Broncos U18 AA team, where he scored five goals and had 14 assists, along with 26 penalty minutes. He added three assists in five post-season games.
