Train derailment east of Fort Macleod

FORT MACLEOD, AB – A Canadian Pacific Railway (CP Rail) train derailed east of Fort Macleod on Sunday, May 22, 2022.

Over 40 rail cars were destroyed in the accident, spilling large amounts of potash.

Fort Macleod RCMP, fire crews, and CP Rail Police are currently all on scene at the crash, which occurred between Range Road 251 and Range Road 252 along Highway 3.

The cleanup is already underway and west-bound traffic in the area is down to one lane. Crews continue with the clean up, which is expected to take several hours.

Fort Macleod RCMP said in a release that no injuries were reported.

The cause of the derailment is currently unknown. This article will be updated when more details become available.
