Lethbridge man charged in connection to hit and run, standoff with officers

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) has made an arrest in connection to a standoff with officers.

At approximately 4:30 pm on May 31, 2022, LPS was called to a hit and run along the 2300 block of 5A Avenue North.

The investigation determined that a parked vehicle was struck and that both the male driver and a female passenger in the offending vehicle fled the scene on foot.

When two witnesses tried to intervene, the man allegedly produced a knife and threatened them.

The man, who is known to police, was seen entering a nearby home and allegedly refused to exit.

Members of the LPS Tactical Team were deployed to the home. A warrant was obtained to enter the residence and the man was arrested inside.

Officers also seized a knife and ammunition.

Scott Eugene Conine, 39, of Lethbridge, is charged with assault with a weapon, uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, possession of an offensive weapon dangerous to the public, three counts of failing to comply with a probation order, breach of a peace bond, and three counts of possession of ammunition while prohibited.

Conine remains in custody and is awaiting a bail hearing.
