Province building up support system for Alberta tech entrepreneurs
EDMONTON, AB – Through the Alberta Technology and Innovation Strategy, Alberta’s government says it is continuing to support the development and attraction of talent, business and job-creating investment.
Government officials say the technology and innovation sector is key to helping diversify Alberta’s economy. The sector is said to be growing year over year and in the first quarter of 2022, attracted a record $466 million in venture capital investment.
Alberta’s government says it is committed to further tech sector growth. Through strategic investments in accelerators, which help mentor and educate early entrepreneurs and startups, the Alberta Enterprise Corporation and regional innovation networks, the government says it is capitalizing on the entrepreneurial spirit of Albertans.
“Investments like this are critical to ensure that we have a strong economic future in Alberta. We are doubling down on entrepreneurs who will define the future of our province. These risk-takers will diversify our economy by creating new companies and jobs while attracting investment and more talent,” said Doug Schweitzer, Minister of Jobs, Economy and Innovation.
