TABER, AB – The provincial government proclaimed the first full week of June as Seniors’ Week in Alberta.

“To recognize the importance of this week to seniors and older adults, this year, the Government of Alberta proclaimed the first full week of June as Seniors’ Week in Alberta going forward,” said Minister of Seniors and Housing Josephine Pon.

“Seniors matter in our lives each and every day. They are not only our parents or grandparents, but they are mentors,” said Pon. “Seniors are volunteers, colleagues at work, or a kind and considerate boss.”

The Town of Taber and the Government of Alberta co-hosted the provincial launch of Seniors’ Week on Monday, June 6, 2022.

Taber Mayor Andrew Prokop said in a news release, “Countless seniors have helped make our communities vibrant, and we are excited to celebrate their contributions. Thank you to all seniors in Taber and throughout Alberta who have made and continue to make our community and province a great place to grow.”

Seniors’ Week will run from June 6 to June 12, 2022. According to the Government of Alberta website, Seniors’ Week is a tradition that began in 1986 to recognize the contributions seniors make to enhancing the quality of life in Alberta.

Events will be held throughout Alberta, and provincial museums are also offering free admission to all seniors during Seniors’ Week.
