LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Hurricanes are bringing on a trio of new skaters.

On Monday, June 6, 2022, the WHL club signed 2007-born defenseman William Sharpe to a WHL Standard Player Agreement.

Sharpe is 15 years old, standing 6’1″ and weighing 194 pounds. He was selected 11th overall by the Canes in the 2022 WHL Prospects Draft in May. Originating from Tsawwassen, B.C., he appeared in 21 games with the Yale Hockey Academy U15 team in 2021-2022 where he totalled 42 points including 19 goals and 23 assists, along with 38 penalty minutes.

Hurricanes Head Scout Rob MacLachlan said he had placed Sharpe in the top-three defensemen last year.

“To pick him at number 11, we are pretty ecstatic,” says MacLachlan. “He is a two-way defenseman, he can rush the puck, he can go end-to-end, he can score goals, and he’s quick to get back on defence.”
