LETHBRIDGE, AB – If your looking to start a new hobby, get back to nature, or get your geek on, there’s an event happening for you this weekend in Southern Alberta.

This weekend is Spock Days in Vulcan! For the early birds out there, you can grab a seat at the Market Street Pancake Breakfast starting at 7:30 a.m. followed by the Town of Vulcan Parade. If breakfast doesn’t fill you up, you can keep your tastebuds busy and try eats from other local spots in the Connect First Credit Union’s Taste of Vulcan. Then to wrap up the afternoon, kids can enjoy the ATB Family Fun Fair.

If you like events that involve food and helping others, then be sure to participate in Target Hunger this weekend. On Saturday June 11, Target Hunger is kicking off it’s food drive to benefit the Lethbridge and Interfaith Food Banks. Households across Lethbridge should have already received a plastic yellow donation bag, and making a donation is easy. Just fill the donation bag with items, set the bag outside your door before 10:00 a.m. Saturday, and a volunteer will come and pick it up. This year, the Lethbridge Food Bank is looking for items such as canned fruit and high-demand perishable items. Households or apartments that didn’t receive donation bags are encouraged to make a donation at any grocery store in the city.

Also on Saturday, Nature Play Day is taking place at Henderson Lake. Nature Play Day lets anyone who’s interested try a variety of outdoor activities, such as dragon boating, kayaking, yoga, crafts, a nature scavenger hunt, and more. There will also be local food trucks on site, so you can spend the whole day at the park. The event runs from 12:00 p.m.until 4:00 p.m. and is free to attend.

Have you ever wanted to learn more about the modes on your DSLR camera? Dive into Creative Photography for Beginners for three hours on Saturday, with one class starting a 2:00 p.m. and the second at 6:00 p.m. at the Holiday Inn at Mayor Magrath Drive and 24 Avenue South. You can learn how to use the two semi-manual modes, and get introduced to techniques such as basic portraits and night photography. The event is being taught by photographer Chris Attrell and tickets can be purchased on Attrell’s website.

If you’re interested in a fun night of bar games, comedy, lip-syncs, drag and more, check out Karla Marx as she debuts at the Bread, Milk and Honey Cafe. Marx is a longtime performer from Calgary who knows how to entertain a crowd. The show runs from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and you can get tickets to this 18+ show on Eventbrite.
