No injuries reported in fiery semi-truck crash near Granum

UPDATE: Claresholm RCMP say Highway 519 has been reopened and traffic flow has resumed. The RCMP and responding emergency and clean-up crews would like to thank motorists for their patience during this incident.

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The RCMP says no one was injured in a fiery crash on Highway 519 east of Granum near Range Road 254.

Police say two semi-trucks collided and burst into flames shortly after 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 16, 2022. According to police, one semi had a load of canola meal, and the other was hauling canola oil.

RCMP say fire and emergency crews from Claresholm, Fort Mcleod, and Coaldale responded, as well as multiple other resources including crews from Volker Steven, Alberta Parks, the Lethbridge Irrigation District, and bridge structure engineers.

As of 5:15 p.m. Thursday, the RCMP said both trucks were still on fire, and crews were allowing them to burn.

Traffic is being rerouted, and police are asking motorists to avoid the area to allow the multiple crews to do their work.
