Lethbridge man charged with aggravated assault

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) has charged a 38-year-old male with aggravated assault.

On Thursday, June 16, 2022, police and emergency medical services (EMS) responded to an unconscious 32-year-old man at around 10:45 p.m. in a parking lot near 6 Avenue and 8 Street South.

The LPS says the victim was transported to Chinook Regional Hospital before being transferred to Foothills Hospital in Calgary in serious condition.

According to police, video surveillance footage in the area showed the victim was struck in the face, fell to the ground, and reportedly sustained life-threatening head injuries.

In a June 17, 2022, news release, the LPS says Aaron Troy Mercredi of Lethbridge, 38, was arrested in the downtown core without incident.

Mercredi has been charged with one count of aggravated assault, and he will remain in custody until a Judicial Interim Release hearing.
