City of Lethbridge celebrates National Indigenous Peoples Day
LETHBRIDGE, AB – The City of Lethbridge is celebrating National Indigenous Peoples Day by encouraging the community to learn a Blackfoot word.
June 21, 2022, also the summer solstice, is the day for Canadians to recognize and celebrate the unique heritage, diverse cultures and contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples.
The City of Lethbridge acknowledged at its opening ceremony for National Indigenous Peoples Day 2022 that Lethbridge is located on the lands of the Blackfoot people.
During the event, City of Lethbridge Indigenous Relations Specialist Echo Nowak said the City respects the Blackfoot people’s past, present and future, while recognizing and respecting their cultural heritage, beliefs and relationships to the land.
