U of L celebrating National Indigenous Peoples Day

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Tuesday, June 21 marks National Indigenous Peoples Day. The University of Lethbridge is not only marking the occasion on Tuesday, but the post-secondary is spreading the celebrations over two days.

On Tuesday, June 21, there will be a Round Dance in the Atrium of University Hall from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Following that, community members can enjoy a barbecue lunch in the Atrium from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. The lunch is presented by Iikaisskini Indigenous Services, in partnership with the Mastercard Program and EleV.

From 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., there will be an OKI sign making session at the Innovation Zone in the Science Commons building. The sign making is presented by Iikaisskini Indigenous Services, in partnership with Agility.

On Wednesday, June 22, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., a beading workshop will take place from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Iikaisskini (Low Horn) Gathering Place. This event is presented by Iikaisskini Indigenous Services, in partnership with the Mootookakio’ssin Research Project, the Art Gallery and the Faculty of Fine Arts. Melissa Shouting will lead the workshop.
